So I had few unsuccessful runs last week: my initial plan was to record subway sounds. I took Q line all the way to the Upper East Side, then walked 10 blocks south and took the same Q train back to Tisch. The sound turned out to be awful. I guess I could clean it up well with Adobe Audition but because of lack of time I had to do something else.
Then I thought of my own Vilnius. Since I’m not there, I can’t do sound, video or audio, so text it is. Back in 2009 when Vilnius was European Cultural Capital, a book Haiku For Vilnius was released. It’s a collection of haiku poems by people who simply love Vilnius.
A traditional Japanese haiku is a three-line poem with seventeen syllables, written in a 5/7/5 syllable count
I created a website that displays new Haiku about Vilnius every three seconds.
Page is running here: https://rutaitp.github.io/vilnius-haiku/
Some parts of code are still to be improved, so this is only for presentation purposes.
I’d like an idea to make it into collective narrative experience where people submitted their stories about the city live as they visit the page
